Aims and Values
Our aim, in the words of the Education Reform Act, is to provide a balanced and broad based curriculum, which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils, and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
School Aims
- To provide, in the light of national legislation, a broad, balanced and relevant education for our pupils.
- To enable our pupils to achieve, academically and in terms of qualifications, at levels commensurate with their ability and aptitude.
- To meet pupils’ individual needs in order to promote respect and considerate behaviour; to develop lively and discerning minds; and to build a sense of self discipline and self reliance.
- To develop and sustain a happy and stable community and environment, in which our pupils may engage, thrive and take pride
- To prepare our pupils for their adult life and to enable them to play a full and productive part in the adult world.
- To build effective links with the local community.
These are further broken down into objectives which are published in the School Prospectus.
School Values
We believe our success with our pupils is in part based upon our own SHARED VALUES. We are committed to providing a first class education for all pupils whatever their ability or background. We foster the all round development of each individual so that everyone can make the most of their talents and contribute to the life of the school and the wider community.
We have identified central VALUES upon which to build and sustain our work as a school. We hope that everyone associated with the school will seek to promote these values. At Southborough High we value:
ACHIEVEMENT - We expect to achieve the highest possible standards in all areas of our work with parents and boys.
SELFRELIANCE / DISCIPLINE - We consider that an educated person can think for themselves and act in a moral way. We expect pupils to learn to take more responsibility for their own learning as they grow older.
TEAMWORK - We consider that effective teamwork amongst all staff and pupils brings the best out of individuals and sparks off creative thinking. We expect people to work together and cooperate.
RESPECT - We expect people to take full account of other people’s views and feelings: always remembering that individuals have responsibilities to other people. Considerate behaviour, trust courtesy and cooperation are all elements of this key value.
IMPROVEMENT - At Southborough High we are always looking for ways to improve both as individuals and as a school.
At Southborough High we reject:
- DISHONESTY
- BULLYING
- SELFISHNESS
- PREJUDICE
- IRRESPONSIBILITY
We, therefore, hope to create a positive learning atmosphere where individuals are valued for their own personal strengths and where they can get on well with one another.
We expect everyone to take PRIDE IN OUR SCHOOL and show a constructive interest in the community and world affairs.

I am extremely grateful to all staff who gave their time, over and above what would be expected, to ensure that my son achieved as well as he did.
