A party to remember: Southborough celebrates its 60th Birthday with friends old and new!

On Saturday 8th July, Southborough High School opened its doors to pupils and staff old and new to celebrate its 60th birthday. And it was certainly an afternoon to remember!

To nudge a few memories, guests were given the chance to take a tour around the school with a number of our trusted prefects before enjoying a glass (or two) of wine and a BBQ with old friends. Displays containing archive photos, newsletters, memorabilia and such like were set up in the main school hall for visitors to enjoy and reminisce about old times -and it was lovely to see so many of our guests re-connecting with one another.

After delivering a brief address to all our visitors, Headteacher Mr Smith invited ex-Headteacher Mr Rook to cut the celebratory cake with him. Other ex-members of staff who joined us for the afternoon included ex-Deputy Headteacher Mr O’Toole , ex-Assistant Headteacher Mr Armstrong and ex-P.A to a number of SHS Headteachers, Mrs O’Toole. It was lovely to see them back at Southborough!

A brief downpour of rain during the afternoon didn’t spoil things and guests managed to sit outside in our courtyard garden once the sun decided to show itself once more.

The afternoon truly high-lighted what a close, friendly and supportive community Southborough High School really was -and is now to this very day. Many thanks must go to Deputy Headteacher Mr Burns for organising such a successful event  -and to his team of helpers, including Mrs Ball, Mrs Bennett (who also baked the delicious celebratory cake) , Mrs Taylor, Mrs Sameri and our wonderful P.T.A members. Big thanks also to our catering team, who prepared such a delicious BBQ.

Here’s to the next big SHS anniversary party!
