Open to all year groups, the club inspires a collective responsibility to protect our environment—from our school grounds to the wider planet.
By bringing together students from across the year groups, the Eco-Club fosters environmental stewardship, sustainability, and community action, empowering young people to take charge of their future. Through hands-on projects, members learn ecological responsibility, promote biodiversity, reduce waste, and improve energy efficiency, all while building vital leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
The crowning achievement of these efforts is the news that Southborough High School has been awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction.
This accolade represents the highest level of international recognition for exceptional, student-led environmental action. The Distinction status is awarded only when a school goes above and beyond standard sustainability targets. Driven by an active, student-led Eco-Committee, our community followed a rigorous framework: conducting an environmental review, creating an action plan, monitoring progress, and linking initiatives directly to the curriculum.

Building on this success, Southborough will proudly host the annual Eco-Schools Conference this November. The event brings together staff and students from secondary schools across both Kingston and Richmond Boroughs for a day packed with lively debate, expert guest speakers, and practical workshops, from building bird feeders to constructing insect 'hotels'.
