Where Every Individual Matters, Every Journey Counts

While Southborough High School is well-known as a successful boys' comprehensive school from Years 7 to 11, our vibrant Sixth Form is fully co-educational, proudly welcoming both male and female students aged 16 to 19.

At Southborough, we offer a nurturing culture rooted in support, guidance, and exceptional care, backed by a standard of teaching that is second to none. Unusually for many sixth forms in the local area, our entire offer is built around true inclusivity. Whatever GCSE grades you achieve, you can be sure that we have a pathway that is right for you.

Our Three Custom Pathways

To ensure every student finds the right fit for their skills and future ambitions, Southborough Sixth Form offers three distinct curriculum pathways.

1. The Foundation Pathway (Level 2)

  • The Focus: A supportive safety net.
  • Who it is for: Designed for students who haven’t quite achieved the GCSE results they had originally hoped for.
  • What it offers: A structured one-year programme focused on retaking essential subjects like Mathematics and/or English GCSE alongside additional Level 2 qualifications, allowing you to reset your foundation and build a bridge to future academic or vocational success.

2. The Advanced Pathway (Level 3)

  • The Focus: Academic challenge and high aspiration.
  • Who it is for: Tailored for high-performing GCSE students aiming for top universities and competitive professions.
  • What it offers: A wide, varied, and rigorous range of traditional A Level and Level 3 BTEC courses. This pathway is explicitly structured to push you academically, hone your critical thinking, and prepare you fully for higher tier apprenticeships or university entry.

3. The Technical Pathway (T Levels)

  • The Focus: Innovation and direct career immersion.
  • Who it is for: For students who want to combine advanced classroom study with substantial, real-world industry experience.
  • What it offers: Featuring our innovative new T Level course Management and Administration, which is equivalent in size to three traditional A Levels. This option blends rigorous, high-quality classroom theory with major industrial work placements, giving you a direct head start and a distinct competitive edge in your chosen career sector.

High Expectations, Exceptional Support

Whichever pathway our students follow, our expectations remain consistently high regarding their commitment to learning. We treat our sixth formers as young professionals, and in return, we expect a dedicated, proactive approach to their studies.

Everything we do is underpinned by our three core values:

  • Resilience: Overcoming challenges and striving for personal growth.
  • Respect: Fostering an inclusive, kind, and professional community.
  • Relationships: Building strong, supportive bonds between staff and peers.

By combining academic rigour across our three pathways with unmatched pastoral care, we offer the very best level of support to enable every single student to thrive.
