Earlier this month, more than forty Year 7, 8, and 9 students participated in an educational excursion to the Opal Coast in Northern France to experience the region's cultural offerings. The comprehensive itinerary included various visits and excursions, as well as opportunities to sample authentic French cuisine, ensuring a rewarding and memorable experience for all attendees.

The trip began with a visit to Dunkirk, where Mr Johnston gave an insightful talk on the WWII evacuation. The next morning, students explored Boulogne sur Mer's marketplace and learned how traditional bread is made in a bakery. They even got to knead the dough and were rewarded with baskets of 'pain aux chocolat', which were quickly devoured.

The next stop was a local chocolate factory, where the boys watched praline-filled chocolates being hand-made and enjoyed tasting them. Unfortunately, there were no leftovers to take home.

Visits to a Planetarium and Aquarium followed, with the highlight being a giant Mantaray named Charlie. Students completed a quiz, with Jasper J and Thomas C tying for first place.

A visit to Amiens cathedral and town offered a chance to enjoy some cultural history and hot chocolate. With good weather, a trip to Hardelot Plage beach included pastries, ice cream, and football, providing a perfect opportunity for relaxation.

Every evening, students played football in a nearby green space, a welcome break from computer games. The trip to France was thoroughly enjoyed by both students and staff. Boys from all three year groups bonded well, new friendships were formed, and a variety of interesting places were visited. Football was played, and plenty of pastries, chocolate, and hot chocolate were consumed.

Many thanks to Ms Stiles, Mr Johnston, Ms Correa, Mr Morgan, and Mrs Khan for organizing and accompanying the boys on the trip. The MFL department plans to run a French trip each academic year, with destinations alternating. Look out for details of a planned trip to Paris soon!
