Southborough High School’s Geography team recently took Year 8 on an exciting trip to Kew Gardens, where students explored a variety of biomes and experienced an incredible range of plant life. The visit gave pupils the chance to see diverse vegetation up close, deepening their understanding of ecosystems and bringing their classroom learning to life in a memorable and engaging way.
During the immersive day out, students completed a quiz to discover just how vital the tropical rainforest is to our planet.
They encountered a fascinating variety of weird and wonderful useful plants, ranging from rubber trees and bananas to unusual spices.
A particular highlight for the boys was climbing the high walkways to witness the distinct layers of the rainforest, whilst experiencing the authentic heat and humidity of the famous Palm House.
The students also sharpened their geography skills by drawing detailed field sketches to showcase the unique adaptations of different cacti. It was truly amazing how they 'travelled' from the Amazon to the Sahara, all within London in a single day—providing excellent preparation and revision for their Exam Week 3 test on biomes.
Creativity was also on display through a photograph competition. Entries are currently being submitted across three categories: most beautiful, most unusual, and man-made. Competition is keen, and the winners will be announced very soon!
